Connecting a vehicle network with Internet is the most critical point from cybersecurity point of view in a modern vehicle. Furthermore, it is a very critical point from safety point of view. In worst case, a hacker can get control over entire fleet of vehicles.

The use cases that utilise connectivity are ever growing. Remote vehicle control, that include even moving the vehicle, and remote diagnostic data collection are becoming mainstream features. The challenge is that growing number of connected features require ever wider access to vehicle network.

Software architecture can be used to prevent and mitigate security problems. The traffic flows need to be well instrumented, there needs to be a strict access control and attack surface needs to be minimal. On the other hand, the development environment needs to be as easy-to-use as possible to speed up innovation.
