Over-the-air software updates are a critical component of any modern connected device, and cars are no exception. With ADAS, high-resolution maps, and autonomous vehicles, the amount of software and pace of development within automotive is rapidly increasing, and OTA updates are key to keeping these systems safe and secure. In this session, we will examine the Uptane specification (https://uptane.github.io/), developed by security researchers and funded by the US DHS. We will discuss the specific safety and security challenges of the automotive industry, and look at what open source software exists that helps developers integrate Uptane into their systems.
